Nate just isn't as high drama as the rest of the characters (he works almost as a passive object used as a catalyst to create or add to drama between characters, such as Serena and Blair, Blair and Chuck, Dan and Chuck, Dan and Jenny, Jenny and Vanessa, etc. Boy is a total doe-eyed home-wrecker and he's not even trying), so he might be less entertaining to write for.

But a throw-away line would have helped. Is he with the Vanderbilts? Visiting his dad in prison? Whoring himself out for the billionth time in his young career? WHAT?

Maybe he's scouring the world for Chuck in his own way? But, while the boy is probably a bit more down-to-earth compared to a lot of the characters, he's a bit slow.

So it's taking him a while to figure out that Chuck is back.
