the attractiveness of the musician is not really a factor for me in music. In actors, sure. But when it comes to music, I'm just listening. I don't even pay attention to music videos. The videos just distract from the music for me. I mean, I like music scores for movies and tv. So I do think music can enhance visuals. But I don't really think the reverse is true for me. Visuals don't enhance music, at least for me personally. I like music on its own. So how the artist looks isn't a factor for me.

Yeah, I rarely see music videos and a lot of the music I listen to doesn't have the artist on album covers, so visuals really don't play a role

Same. I'm not really a music person, in general, though. I like a good score and have some artists and songs I love, but usually it's just background noise to me. Most of the time I can't even tell you WHO sings a song I like, let alone what they look like.

Ah. Now that isn't me at all. My ipod comes everywhere with me. I want my life to have a soundtrack. I love music. Music is as important to me as visual media such as tv, movies, or books. Actually, it is probably the most important media for me even if I love the others too. Sound is so important to how I experience the world.

Musicians are straight up just vehicles for my own imagination. I'm sure they're lovely, and I'm sure they had a very particular idea in mind when they made that song. But WHO CARES I have this VERY new ship that I am ALL UP IN and both you and your ideas can bugger off. Thanks for the music and ta-ta!

Cannot imagine any circumstance where someone would be so ugly I couldn't listen to their music

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Tom Petty without a beard looked like a non-desiccated Crypt Keeper but you'll tear his music from my desiccated hands.

Tiny Tim? Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear?

(Anonymous) 2021-01-04 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so annoying when people judge someone's appearance in music instead of actually judging on the music itself.

I think that he has an interesting face. He's quite boyish. I think people are thrown off by his mouth.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
You can just listen to his music without looking at him if his face bothers you that much. What’s ugly about his energy?

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I don't know if this is what you mean by attractive but judging by your wording I believe so... I've been enjoying exactly one song of his quite a bit, but I just don't "vibe" well with these revolutionary young adult types? I think that having an aesthetic I can't relate to makes me unwilling to be "a fan" too. Just, idk, a feeling of "maybe they're gona stir up shit or say something I loathe", and you know what, sometimes they don't and boy-next-door does. But, IDK. Whatever.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I have never seen a picture of him and have no interest in liking music based on someone's looks* but I agree that his energy/vibe/whatever is unpleasant, and I don't like his music either.

*though admittedly sometimes someone is so hot that I give their music a try, which works about about 30% of the time

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
His "energy" is ugly or, like, *he's* just ugly. Because this felt real honest until we got to "energy." Which is some real hippie dippie crystal chick obfuscation in order to not sound mean.

"It's not you, it's just, like, your *energy,* man. That's why I'm running off with this jam band roadie I just met named Rafael Columbia Free-Will DaVinci-Code Evans. He just has good viiiiibes, ya knooooow?"

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this got me too. Do you just mean he looks ugly, or do you actually feel there are things in his music that bespeak an ugly outlook on life or temperament? Because they are VERY different things.

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
He had his lips done. I saw photos of him from a while back, his mouth didn't look like that. The only thing about him that interests me is his bi-curiousity.

i like when someone's style "matches" their music, but i don't think i've ever changed my likes based on looks

(Anonymous) 2021-01-05 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Frequently, I have no idea what newer musicians look like. The ones the media shoves in my face either aren't the ones whose music I hear on the radio, or I have yet to connect them with their songs. You have to have been around making music for a while before I'm either going to notice what you look like (I do, by now, know what Harry Styles looks like, for example) or else make a connection between the images I see and the songs I hear. Either that I have have to love a song so much I look up the song to find the artist and then look up the artist.
