Horns was great, I wasn't nearly as impressed with his other books. NOS4A2 and the Fireman were both lazily overlong and I don't enjoy his short stories very much.

When he has as long and prolific a career as his father that includes so many books that are cultural touchstones (if only through their movie adaptations), then you can compare them.

Right now, Joe Hill doesn't hold a candle to his dad.

I think you need to reread the secret. The secret doesn't say that Joe Hill is a better writer than Stephen King. While the person who wrote the secret is comparing the two, they only state that they like Joe Hill's writing better, which is a matter of taste and perfectly valid. I like Bridget Fonda's acting better than Peter Fonda's, even though he had a more illustrious career.

Liking one book doesn't mean you prefer one author over another. It means you like one book. Until you've read a significant number of an author's books, you can't really say if you like them as "an author" or you just happened to like one of their books.

You have no way of knowing how many books OP has read. Just because they cited a specific book they liked doesn't mean that's the ONLY book they read.

I've got a headache and I'm genuinely not sure if you're trolling or just dense and unreasonable trying to argue that OP isn't capable of judging what they do or don't like.

ayrt

Wow. I cannot imagine trying to dictate to someone else how they are allowed like something. You don't know how much of his work the OP has read, they could've read all his novels, short stories, and comics, and the mentioned book was just an example. But even if they had only read the one, they could still make the assertion that they like Joe Hill's writing better and know it to be true because it is more to their taste.

What? No, OP doesn't have to wait until Hills career is as long and prolific as his dad's to compare them, what a ridiculous thing to say. OP and everyone else on the planet is perfectly qualified to decide they like one author more than another. They don't need to meet your irrational standards first.

Seriously, what's up with you?

That's a hell of a long time to wait. In the meantime I guess OP can start reading SK's grandkid's books.

I haven't been interested in reading a single book written by SK in his long and prolific career, and I've never even heard of his son, but I can say with absolute certainty that you're a jerk who's really defensive about this for some reason. Stephen, is that you?
