I do think social media which has mute functions are much better for this reason, but this is I think an essential drawback to social media. it treats passive interaction as active interaction or leading to active interaction, and so something like "blocking" feel confrontational because....you think they need an understandable reason to do so. it's made us all into hotels who need a good reason to refuse service. but you're not actually meaningfully interacting with them.

I think the rule of all relationships, passive or not, apply here. If you're feeling bad about one, invest in others. if you have enough meaningful interaction elsewhere, this might not affect you so greatly.
