I've never bought this attitude. Because even though some people think they don't owe creators positive feedback, that sure doesn't stop them from leaving negative feedback. To literally go out of their way and spew their opinions and feelings about a work, and think it's perfectly valid to get in the creator's face about it. Yet, positive engagement is too much to ask for? That's too needy? Too entitled?

Naw. Miss me with that.

Just say you don't want to. Just say it's too much effort. Say anything, except creators don't deserve your concern, or consideration, because that's kind of fucked up.

Negative feedback is pretty rare, at least left directly to the author.

If you're getting a lot of it, you're probably really bad at fic.

No, it's not rare. It happens when antis leave comments about how a creator is a pedo, or when they don't like a pairing for whatever reason. I've seen that shit a lot. So, again: miss me with that bs.

As for getting negative feedback myself? I love getting flamed, if I may reveal my age with the term. Love it. That means I held someone's attention long enough to read what I wrote, and made them feel strongly enough to leave a comment about it. That shit gives me life.
