I'm currently trying a hot toddy with brandy instead of whisky \o/

Hot tea with lemon for sore throat.

Whoops, forgot to mention honey, too.

My dad makes an onion tea with purple onions, cinnamon sticks, ginger, honey, and some other stuff. It tastes absolutely awful and makes the kitchen reek of onion, but it does soothe my throat when I have a bad cold.

My dad would give us a jigger of hot brandy and honey for a cough (omg, how i loathed it). Did make us stop coughing and go to sleep, though.

Also - a strip of flannel around the neck, with Vicks under it.

Nothing works for clearing sinuses like steam. I just go in the bathroom, turn the shower on high, and sit on the toilet and read magazines for an hour.

Good old black tea with honey, and I have dried ginger with it (the chewy, sweet kind - I get it from Nuts.com). This combo of heat and sweetness really soothes.

For a meal when I have a cold, I just smash up a ripe tomato with garlic and olive oil and basil and make a really simple sauce right in the skillet to serve with pasta. Jar sauce is no bueno. It has to be this exact way of making it. I think it's the vitamin in the tomato

Sorry for the late reply-

But the most obvious cold sign to me is a cold nose. The feeling that the air you breath is chilling and more than natural. Last time I did technically what another reviewer responded and fixed a (literal) cup of chicken broth soup.
I boiled water- ground the broth in the cup and seasoned with general chicken spice (I could find the specifics if you want) and bean thread noodles. I put a lid on the tall coffee type cup for three or so mins.

After that- I just held it close and breathed it in. If my nose didn't warm by the time the soup got cool, I'd warm it once more and breathe it in again. Eating it after that.
The warmth to my sinuses, especially the various herbs vaporing through the broth is probably the best godsend I have outside of hard medication.

(hell it cured me 100% of the one and a half times I've had to try it)
