there are so many "kill this fucking annoying animal which turns into a rich prince" versions of this folk tale that I can't see a reversal variation as automatically sexist. I think with that context even the "women are annoying animals/pets" implications can't be made unreservedly. I do find all versions very annoying tho, and I truly wonder what the point is? you have to violently train you spouse into humanity? people will be aggressively provoking and until you respond in kind, you can't have a real connection? every partner will annoy the living shit out of you but you have to remember they're actually great? idk. I'm not a fan whatever the respective genders, OP, so I'll agree with you there.

Yeah this. There are so many fairytales with beast princes that get killed to turn back into princes. But a lot of people dont know those, they only know, for example, the Hollywood version of Princess and the Frog where the frog gets kissed to turn back into a prince when the real story has the frog asking for a kiss and the princess yeeting him at the wall in response after which he turn back.
