NAYRT but weird plot =/= non-sensical plot imo.

Spirited Away's plot (for example) was WEIRD, but it never ceased to make sense (at least not to me).

This. There comes a point in a Miyazaki film where it feels like it just grinds to a halt. In Spirited Away, once the baby is a hamster and they're on the train tracks, that's where I check out.

That's... that's the best part. The quiet, the experiential now-ness, the Sen-goes-out-with-her-posse, the sometimes-saving-someone-happens-gently. It's like, the focus of the whole story.

Hmmmm. This sounds like a genre I very much wouldn't like then. I don't mind a slow moving plot sometimes, but I still need it to move. And slow works better in a book for me. Slow bores me much quicker on a screen.

I wouldn't call it slow-moving. The part ayrt is referencing is a brief, peaceful interlude with gorgeous animation.

The whole entire movie has gorgeous animation. It's a feast for the eyes. So, by then I'm kind of over it, I guess? I do like quiet moments, but that scene just doesn't do it for me personally. I feel a scene that's quiet and done right is when Chihiro is eating the rice ball and begins to cry. That scene just feels really profound to me, and communicates so much through the animation. I love that scene.

I'm not a fan either, but that's actually the point, and you're supposed to just enjoy the scenery more or less.

for a very long time I didn't understand why or how the kid immediately knew her parents weren't in that group of pigs near the end. Years later I heard Miyazaki was trying to imply that there's some sort of ESP between kids ad parents.

Huh, I thought it was because she knew Yubaba would try to trick her in some way.
