I enjoyed Pili Fantasy: War of Dragons, which does have romance, but among quite a few other plot lines and the only serious bit of it is near the end of the season

I can't recommend it without that caveat that while the puppetry is extremely skilled (some aspects of making the characters move are actually fairly similar to muppetry) they are near-static doll faces, not fuzzy and expressive in the face.

(The puppeteers are skilled enough to have made a character in another show vibrate in rage at proper puppet scale but also sometimes they'll just throw the whole thing if that's what gets the shot)
