Not to be 'that parent' but when you have a small tiny helpless thing depending on you for absolutely everything, this can and does happen. My child HATED being put down and would scream the whole time (we even had to hold him to sleep). You are conditioned (both by the act of parenthood and society as a whole) to respond to their cries, so just putting them down for 10 minutes in a swing while you have a shower just isn't as easy as all that, especially at first when your hormones are still all over the place anyway. It is ROUGH going to begin with. With two parents it should be easier, as one can take the child while the other showers, but it's not always like that. Sleep is the other issue. 'Sleep when the baby sleeps' is fine as long as a) the baby actually sleeps (mine did not) and b) you don't have to do other things.
