In theory I'm all about ship and let ship. But for some reason Stark/Parker in particular hits buttons for me when I see it shipped as a healthy romance, not as a fucked-up mentor turned pedophile situation it actually would be. Maybe it's because of how common the ship seems or how much I see the romantic version of the ship? Maybe it is because I've had a couple people I thought were mentors turn out to be just using me and manipulating me (not sexually). I don't know.

Honestly seeing Strange/Parker being written as romantic would squick me less because the mentor angle would be removed.

Personally, I don't care for it either because I'm exactly Tony Stark's age and Peter seems tooooo young to me. I like their kinda mentor uncle dynamic instead.

But when I was Peter's age I was thirsting for old guys so maybe I'm a hypocrite.

Also, agree with OP about the focus switching being irritating. That bums me out when a character's gone, too.

That's not hypocrisy, it's growing up.

You'd only be a hypocrite if you crapped on the primarily-young fandom for the pairing for their thirst, instead of just avoiding them.

Not a hypocrite, unless you criticised the young fanbase for being that way! I think many/most of us are like that. Age and experience is attractive, and then when you're old enough to really get how big a difference it is and what babies teenagers are, it's weird and squicky. Especially if you empathise with the older one, like for you being the same age as Tony.

I had this very early, because I watched Pretty Little Liars when I was a new, 22yo teacher with 16yo students - who were TINY BABIES - and consequently the 22yo new teacher/16yo student ~forbidden love pairing, which I probably would've enjoyed when I was a teenager myself, because the squickiest thing in the WORLD.

I mean, I also don't judge older people who can still enjoy teen/adult pairings as a fantasy! But I do think that's a really common experience.
