I *adored* him in the first* anime and the manga. The more you got to know him, the more alien he got, the more detached? But he was still fighting a very long war to free his cousins' souls, and he won and it was amazing.

Best character in the series, for me.


* Haven't seen the second anime, so can't comment.

Having not read the manga, I remember the first anime being goofier; the new one has funny moments but the characters are deeper and darker and the overall tone is this beautiful sort of melancholy. Shigure definitely has a lot going on.
