What are some games, movies, comics, et cetera that you find to be beautiful in appearance/style?

Alternate flipside of the above thread~

The online comic Riceboy. I would happily live in that gorgeous, surreal world.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum looked fantastic when it was first released back 2004 on PS2. It still holds up pretty well, IMHO.

I love Your Name so much, my god. It's one of the few movies that make me wish I had one of those OTT home cinema setups, so I could see all those sweeping vistas and tracking shots of the comet-slash-meteorite in full detail again.
I also love everything that Cartoon Saloon makes, their style is just *chef kiss* perfection.

Bastion is a very visually pleasing game indeed, and I would say that Supergiant Games just generally has a good look to their games (but Bastion is the only one I've played).
I also found Far Cry 5 quite pretty in places - there's some really nice bits of landscape to admire in that game, when you're not being shot at or chased up a tree by another damn wolverine.

As far as comics and manga... I can't think of anything but the work of Kaoru Mori. Otoyomegatari, or A Bride's Story, is just a non-stop visual feast. There are so many engrossing details on every page, I can hardly focus enough to read the story!

Lord of the Rings. Gorgeous to watch. Not really accurate to the books, but still so pretty.

And all of Tolkien's writing paints visuals in your mind. You can picture his world for yourself, and it is amazing.

Star Wars. Any of them. I love the practical effects of the OT, the CGI of the PT, and the mix of the ST.

The animated look of the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. Love.

The gorgeousness that is Lion King. The original.

Sleeping Beauty. An early Disney movie, but still so pretty.

Doctor Who. You get to see different planets, different species, and also the past. And done so well. And Old Who also has a certain charm to it with its outdated but fun look.

Legend of the Seeker. Lots of eye candy both in terms of pretty men and women and in terms of scenery.

Goddddd, those Eyvind Earle backgrounds are to die for. I used to have a tag just for his art on my Tumblr so I could find it and look at it easily.

CLAMP, Yuu Watase, and Matsuri Hino have beautiful artwork. Hino’s art style is my favorite, but all the manga I’ve read from her has disappointed me.

I feel like that about Arina Tanemura but actually like Hino's manga series.

Valerian, the comic and not the movie. The art and colors are beautiful. I may or may not want that sort of sci-fi whimsy in my life now.

I'm really liking the art direction of DIE, which really reminds me of the McKean Black Orchid.

Hades is the first Jen Zee game I've not bought yet. Hoping for an Xbox version.

I have tried to watch Maleficent a couple of times and have no idea what the plot is and whether or not I actually think it's a good movie, because the art direction and costuming and so on is just like... exactly my aesthetic, and I keep getting distracted by how perfect everything is.

Also, mentioned this here a few weeks ago, the old Buck Rogers TV show. The whole thing is SPACE DISCO and it's so tacky but yet somehow I just looooooove the cheesy retro sci-fi vibe.

...And of course, my beloved Vagrant Story that I will rave about at every chance. PS1-era polygon/textures don't look great by modern standards, but the atmosphere in that game, and the direction with the camera angles during cut scenes, holy crap.

Also in the video game department, anything Team Ico has put out. I have spent so many hours just riding my horse all over the land in Shadow of the Colossus and finding little pockets of forest and waterfalls and a particularly lovely tree on the edge of a cliff and so on that are of no consequence whatsoever from a gameplay standpoint, but just so beautiful.

Maybe because of the era I grew up in I seem to really like 16bit/MSX-era cute games and sprites. When I think beautiful games I think Sonic 3, Chrono Trigger, Princess Maker 2, Earthbound, Kirby Superstar, Sailor Moon 16-bit era games. Nintendo DS still does it for me (games like Harvest Moon/Ace Attorney/TWEWY/Castlevania DoS/Kirby/Luminous Arc/Princess Peach/Princess Debut/TokiMemo...). Those games all look beautiful to me.

If we're talking newer (as in: 3D) games... I feel that it's unfair to compare because there were many technological improvements. I remember games like Rune Factory, Rule of Rose and Devil Summoner 2 looked good but by today's standards they're ugly. Tomb Raider 3 and Summer Heat Beach Volleyball were once peak gamer horniness though. So, for now I love the aesthetic of every Persona game since 4 and every Final Fantasy game since XII and every Atelier game since Ayesha; every GUST game, Catherine (it's innovative!), Time and Eternity, Ni no Kuni, Exist Archive, Drakengard 3 (to each their own...), Star Ocean 5 and for "well duh", MGS5, Plague Tale and Bayonetta 2.

For anime movies, anything by Kyoto Animation ( :( ), anything Makoto Shinkai and Ghibli obviously, but almost anything Silver Link, SHAFT or PA Works brings a smile to my face, too (even if I hate SHAFT but aesthetically it is pleasing). For manga artists, Hiroyuki Asada, Naoko Takeuchi, Katsura Hoshino, Haruhisa Nakata, Ayami Kojima, Yun Kouga, Katsumi Michihara, Setsuko Katou, Kazuki Yone and naked ape are some artists I like a lot/that inspire me.

Hands down, Eyeshield 21 is the most gorgeous manga of all time. Death Note is also very well drawn.

JLI written by Keith Giffen and J. M. DeMatteis, with art by Kevin Maguire, created in 1987. Is hands down the best story to panel hilarity I've ever known.

Mononoke is brilliant.

Journey is a gorgeous video game. DA: Inquisition as well. The same can be said for Until Dawn. And plenty others I'm forgetting.
