My big problem with Ocean's 12 was that the entire plot felt like a misdirect for the audience. Basically, lots of private conversations between characters that seemed to be there only to trick the viewer, all adding up to the fact that none of the supposed stakes were real.

I agree with you, but I love "the audience is the mark" thief stuff. And I think a different marketing strategy would have set up the audience for it better. And I love the failed aspect of the trick heist.
