What's even more awkward is when I want to dissect/deep dive into something but don't really feel like defending everything I say about it to the world? If that makes sense? It's really awkward because yes, I know that I'm sometimes super dumb and make dumb mistakes in my analysis, but I don't feel like defending my entire existence atm, please come back later. But at the same time by doing some dissection I pretty much invited discussion lmao

I mean, yes, absolutely. I really miss having close friends and family who would just listen to me talk about something patiently and thoughtfully without taking it as a deeply thought-out position to be argued against.

I think I'm good with discussion, I just wish there was a more tolerant and patient attitude, assuming good will and acknowledging that someone else may just be testing out a thought, not necessarily mounting a robust argumentative position.

Ooh, yeah, very much seconding this. I love dissecting the fiction I like, but that doesn't mean all my thinky thoughts are hills I want to die on. But with fandom culture being the way it is, it feels like there's this need to be really careful about any analysis you make, because there's always going to be people whose response is either, "This doesn't hold up to strong interrogation," or like, "Don't tell me what to think!" and it's like...I was just musing because I like it.
