I like Willow. Yes, she did some really awful things. Went evil even, though it appears to me that she took on some magic that wasn't her own in that case when she tried to bring Tara back. But she certainly in her magic addiction did some bad things, but she was on the mend and fighting her addiction when Tara was killed. I say she was a complicated, flawed character. I liked her because of her flaws.
Giles is certainly my favorite with Buffy a close second.

I always thought the writers were stupid for making Angel have to die. It said 'his blood' would close the portal. Didn't say all of it, and he's a vampire! He can loose a lot of blood and still be alive. Blech.
I blame most of Xander's non-growth on Whedon, as he basically abandoned the character after, i think, season three? And was like 'I don't care, he can die'. He really did a number on the actor, which makes me angry.
I loved Anya, she was so awesome and fun. I hated how everyone treated her (ESPECIALLY WILLOW). I also loved Faith and was appalled at everyone, even Giles, letting this under-aged, traumatized girl live by herself (how???) in this sleezy, gross hotel. She got shafted so hard by them all.
I grew to like Buffy a lot more when i rewatched the series - at first I thought she was just too whiney and annoying, but later she felt more relatable.
I won't go on about Willow again, as i said most of what i wanted to say above. I just never liked the character at all and she only got worse, to me, with every season.
