It was effective

I don't have much of an opinion on the show itself, barely remembering the plot after all these years, but Maromi remains my favorite anime mascot character.

I felt like it was too cold and detached. Here’s all these characters who’re suffering, but don’t bother empathizing with them. Just put them under a magnifying glass and study their actions as dispassionately as you’d study insects. (I had the same problem with Solaris.)

*Spoilers for Paranoia Agent*

The show worked really well for me until the whole girl had period cramps and that's how her dog got away and got hit by a car. I just thought that was an odd story choice that didn't jive well with me. And I can't even really tell you why.

I think it was supposed to be some kind of sexual maturity = emotional maturity = recognizing the darkness of your heart thing. She rejects one, so she rejects all three. I don’t normally pull the “man writing a woman” card, but this really does feel like a man writing a woman.

AYRT.

Yeah. I think that's exactly it. That's very a good read on that. I think the other thing I had a problem with until the reveal was that I assumed that whatever happened with the dog was something that she intentionally did. Not something that was close to out of her control. I really felt like the narrative framed Maromi's death as her fault, and I don't think that was fair.

I am aware that I have seen this, but I literally remember nothing about it.

The only episode I actually liked of this was the one with the trio who'd made a suicide pact.

The final episode was just...weird.

I really do need to rewatch this series. I remember absolutely loving the series as a teen - but I don't really remember how it went.
I still listen to the music from the soundtrack by Susumu Hirasawa though because it's really good (along side his other works with Satoshi Kon and the soundtrack for the original series of Berserk)

I don't remember it being scary, more psychologically disquieting

loving the satoshi kon secrets

it was bizarre, I'd probably need at least another watch to try to figure it out better.

I overall liked the show but my favorite episode by far is the second one. It was just really well done.
