Re: Writing Sober/Not Sober?

Do you write sober? Drunk? High on weed? Shrooms? Any other drugs? A mix?
And this is for writing of any kind, but in my specific mind it's for fiction writing (original content and fanfics).

I've never been able to write drunk. I'm not much of a drinker to begin with. My body is not thinking about writing when I'm drunk.

Lately, I'm usually high on weed when I write. I have days where I write sober, on nothing at all. Both ways I think my creativity is fine, but with weed, I feel much calmer when I start to write.

Have never tried writing while under the influence of anything else though I've heard some people speak praises on shrooms.

I’ve never gotten drunk before, but I’ve tried writing while high and it didn’t work for me. I thought I was doing amazing, but when I checked my work the next morning, it was just the dumbest word salad riddled with errors.

I've come up with some fairly interesting ideas while buzzed (alcohol or weed) but I always wait till it wears off and see if it still sounds like a good idea afterwards.

I can't write when I'm drunk. I can't even write when I'm mildly buzzed. I mean, I could leave a reasonably intelligible comment on F!S if I were buzzed. I could maybe even slap together an opinion post if I was drunk. But any sort of writing that's the least bit complicated? Hell no, not a chance. I'm barely fit to tangle with the thousand minute considerations that writing demands I tangle with when I'm sober, let alone drunk.

As for stoned, I can barely hold a conversation when I'm stoned. My thoughts fracture and skitter away from me faster than they can form. I forget what I'm saying before I can finish my sentence. It's horrible and scary. So yeah, writing is definitely, definitely out of the question while stoned. But I also just don't get stoned.

Friends that have done shrooms haven't written but tend to draw & color.

Anything I write if I've had to drink just comes out a hilarious slurry of words that make sense but are ridiculous in their statement.

But I generally don't write when I drink.

Not sure if this counts, but when I was younger it was sugar and sleep deprivation that got my creative self going.

I do a lot of my writing like one drink in on the edge of properly buzzed, but that's mostly because I write in the evenings and tend to have a beer or two to relax after work lmao
