But the people writing it aren't producers who only care about the bottom line. The people writing it are...well, just people. Hell, often writers are the sensitive type. Most of them don't go about their day thinking of themselves as Big Deals who are so above criticism. They just feel like regular people, who happen to have a job that puts their work in front of millions of people.

My bet? Most writers are shitscared of messing up a representation storyline and getting told they're racist/sexist/homophobic unwoke trash by hundreds if not thousands of people who will remember their mistake and continue to periodically accuse them (via social media) of being shitty, for years to come.
