Ocean's Eleven (1960) - just for the fact that they used a physical marquee

Honorable mention (and inspiration) goes to WandaVision's fun through-the-ages-of-TV thing.

Casino Royale was good, but honestly, I loved all the Bonds openings.

the first set of opening credits for Fire Force was a good 40% of the reason I watched.

Oh, and the watchman opening was amazing.

Re: the new Bond openings, I do think they were all pretty good, but Casino Royale stands out for me. I think I liked how elegant (?) it was. A single, pretty clear concept, linked to both the Casino aesthetics and the plot. And maybe a nod to more old-school style illustrated credits?

I have to say, I was weirded out by the Spectre credits. I mean, I'm not opposed to a bit of tentacle porn, but I found this neither titillating nor artistically appealing.

I thought that shot from Serenity was great, specifically in terms of trying to introduce the characters and the layout of the ship to new viewers without being boring for fans of the show.

For TV, my hands-down favorite is the True Blood opening credits. So, so good. Significantly better than the show itself, even at its best, IMO.

The Mad Men credits are exactly what the show calls for (and the exact right length for artsy credits without lyrics).

The Wallander credits are extremely simple (like do-it-yourself simple), but haunting.

Most of the other credits sequences I like are not particularly artistically strong, they just have songs that get me hyped to watch the show (even if the show itself isn't all that good). I want to bellow "Somebody SAAAAAAAVE MEEEEE" with the Smallville credits, and "Come on now, sugar! Bring it on, bring it on, yeah!" with the Veronica Mars credits, and that breathless "I don't wanna wait!" with the Dawson's Creek credits, and "CALIFORIAAAAAA, HERE WE COOOOOOME," with The OC credits, and do the five quick claps on the FRIENDS credits.

I've always felt the Mad Men opening credits is so perfect. I never skip it when I do rewatches.

TV: X-files, Futurama and Good Omens.

On a side note which I don't know counts; but I sometimes enjoy watching a video/playlist of all the Naruto OP and Closing themes & animation all the way through to Shippuden.

Ooh, yes, I loved the Good Omens intro. Beautiful illustrated style, great music, and peppered with so many blink-and-you'll-miss-it references to the plot.

Babylon 5 seasons 4 and 5
All Star Trek, but especially DS9
Doctor Who
Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
House
Firefly (overrated show, but great credits)
Angel the Series (I never got into Angel the way I did Buffy, but I always loved the theme of Angel)
ATLA
Korra
Sliders (I actually like all season openers even if the quality dips in terms of actual episodes later on)
The Jetsons (classic for a reason)
Simpsons (also a classic)

Movie intros:
Nothing beats the opening of Fellowship of the Ring. Nothing ever.
Jurassic Park- tells you exactly what you're in for.
Halloween- genuinely scary opening that also introduces Michael in a perfect way
Lion King- is there anything better than introducing a Disney movie with a song?
Star Wars OT- I love how we always start out from the perspective of the villains. The sequels do that as well. I like it.

Very overrated and actually meh opening: 2001: A Space Odyssey. For me this one is all visuals without much substance to back it up. Which is how I feel about the movie in general.

TV: Elementary, Fringe, Psych (especially when they changed the music style of the theme song to go with the episode)

Movies: Speed, The Pink Panther (1963), Sneakers (not a great movie, but entertaining and title sequence stuck with me)

Thank you for reminding me to go back to Elementary! I haven't watched it in ages and couldn't even remember the intro credits.

I absolutely agree about the ever-wonderful Pink Panther credits sequence.

I had even forgotten about Sneakers and the nice nod to the code-breaking/anagramming part of the plot.

You're welcome! Elementary is great and I love both the Rube Goldberg machine and the violin-heavy theme.

Pink Panther is a classic for good reason.

I really like any sort of code-breaking imagery, so ones like Sneakers (or The Matrix, but Sneakers was there first) really catch my attention.

Well yeah James Bond in general and... For TV I only ever watch/ed cartoons but As Told By Ginger struck me as having a great theme song as a kid/teen.

Not directly related to the question but honorable mention to the game equivalent of James Bond openings: MGS Snake Eater. (Other mentions because I'm a weeaboo: Luminous Arc 1, Wild Arms 1, ending credits to Persona 3 with Memories of You.)
