A really stupid question because I fail at adulthood

If there’s a fire in my apartment and for whatever reason I can’t get out, would turning on the shower and staying in there be a good idea?

No, you wont die from the flames, you will die from the smoke. The only thing you can do is get on the ground and keep your face pressed to the floor.

I thought maybe the steam would shield me from the smoke. Again, I know it’s stupid. Thanks for the answer!

nayrt

Better for someone to ask a "stupid question" and learn something, than not.

No. When people die in fires, it's usually the smoke inhalation that kills them, not being burned to death. Putting a wet cloth over your nose and mouth will help, but it won't solve the problem - this is ONLY a measure to take as you're trying to get the hell out of the building, by crawling on the ground to avoid the worst of the smoke. Time is of the essence in a situation like this, so kicking down doors, breaking open windows and jumping if you have to, etc. is preferable to remaining inside a burning building.
