I believe you are right.

Call me a cynic but I hold that most people, even people who will tell you how much they deeply care, for the most part don't actually care about any issue that doesn't personally affect them. People care about 1. Securing their own shit, 2. Promoting their image as a "Good person", and 3. Seeing people who wrong (or even just mildly oppose) them suffer. 2 and 3 are interchangeable in terms of priority, but they always come behind 1.

The nicest suit in the world, the most progressive and woke corporate drone will happily sit back a let monstrous shit happen behind a closed door as long as it promotes 1 and doesn't threaten 2 or 3. So I think you're right. and I don't think it's limited to suits, Rockstar's or anyone else in media.

And I don't profess it don't apply to me.

I like to think I'd stand up to it, that it wouldn't take a social media storm to make my staying silent too obviously transgress against my own sense of being a good person... but I've seem the mental gymnastics people can do. I can't say with all honesty I KNOW I'd be immune to it.

You're not entirely wrong, but I think there's a balance to it. I think most humans walking through a street of their fellow humans starving and dying would find it hard to revel in their own security in life and be driven to help.
