There are lots of people I admire, but I definitely think there's something to be said for recognizing that they're probably not better people than anyone else you meet on a daily basis. The fact that they're more attractive and successful than us, and create things we enjoy, doesn't make them less messy and flawed. There's no reason to assume they possess above-average moral/ethical character.

Personally, I try to make that part of what I admire about them: they're successful and they create all this cool stuff, even when on the inside they're as messy and flawed as anyone.

Obviously, at a certain point a celeb progresses from "messy and flawed" to "a downright horrible person," and yeah, that's a bummer. But I feel like this perception people have that it's futile to admire anyone famous because they'll always turn out to suck says more about the person who thinks that than it says about celebs. If most of the celebs you like turn out to suck, you're either extremely unlucky, or you need to raise your bar a little on what it takes for someone to suck as a person.

Admiration and hero worship are two different things. It's perfectly fine to admire and appreciate. Just as long as it doesn't get to the point where the person you like is put on a pedestal. And definitely be wary of parasocial relationships.

I'm pretty sure that's what AYRT meant. And I know that tone doesn't reach across text very well, so that's all I'm trying to say as well. I always worry that I'm going to come across as condescending or tell people things they probably already know.
