If they never witnessed any of it personally, they may not fully believe their coworkers. They may be unsure what to believe, and they don't want to shoot their mouth off about something they have no personal knowledge about.

There's so much we're not privy to. We barely know these people, and we barely know anything about their relationships with each other.

I don't think there's any really good reason not to believe their coworkers - the evidence seems pretty strong, widely corroborated, across different projects and times, etc that Whedon is a dickweed (unless they have some major private info that we're not privy to, and if they have major info that in some way exonerates Joss Whedon, then they ought come forward and say so).

Of course none of this is easy, it's an emotional situation for them and so on. And I don't think that they have a moral obligation to speak up. But I also think it's a good thing to do to condemn that sort of behavior even if you didn't personally perceive it. I thought what Anthony Head said about it was really good, and he was in exactly that situation - he didn't know about it at the time.

Yes, this. It's not uncommon for other people to have no idea of what was going on. Abusers are generally very good at picking their moments, and capable of behaving non-abusively around and to the people they aren't victimising. It's how they get away with it. Anthony Head seems like a genuinely lovely person, and I fully believe that Wheedon would not show that side of himself around someone who might support his victim, not him. I thought his comment was very honest.
