That is the problem with real cops vs media.

Yes, some bad guys are just bad guys, but often the cops are bad and if you speak up, you get Adrian Schoolcraft (turned into a mental institution on bullshit charges because he was working to out the corruption of his precinct), they get stuck with no advancement and frozen out or fired for "creating a hostile work environment," or they remain silent, allowing the abuses to continue.

Instead of cops brow-beating everything, we should expand social services and have social workers to help on calls that require them. But we won't, because prisons are largely private and provide slave labor, thus meaning the prison pipeline goes strong and will continue to. Money is the reason we won't see a reform to policing anytime soon in the US.
