I can relate multishipping ghost ships and having an itch towards the big fandom ship, even if it involves one of the characters I really like. It makes me feel like an asshole since I go "I ship x with everyone.. except z..."

Are "ghost ships" ships from long ago that nobody writes anymore, or non-existent ships in current fandoms?

Also, I have never understood people who won't read outside their OTP (unless it's a pairing that everyone else are dicks about). You miss out on so much in the fandom! Including your faves doing cool stuff outside ship fic!

I actually think you're picking up on a genuine point of criticism - that if female characters are changed from pure sex objects then they become the occupants of a joyless, grim, miserable world.

I dunno, I think it would be awesome if you spoke honestly about it. I think one of the biggest issues with discourse online is the total lack of nuance. Now you've seen both sides and can talk in a lot more depth about where your opinions have changed, and why you think that happened. Because there *is* something to be said for the fact that a female character only becoming more "realistic" when she's also basically being tortured constantly. That nuanced view is valuable.

Plus, I'm gonna be frank here, there's something to be said for just dropping ego and admitting you learned something new and it changed you. That's powerful because it opens the door to personal growth *and* it shows others its safe to do that, too.

Honestly it was the tonal whiplash that got me with the first installment of the new games. You'd have Lara break down over killing someone for the first time in a cut-scene and then you'd just happily go along mowing down everyone in sight like it was no big. Like the older games were really goofy and Lara is the biggest mass murderer in the world in those games too, but the games never made me try to reconcile with that, they just bypass it and focus on the exploration part. Tying to gritty that up just didn't work out.

Like yeah it was unrealistic, but it was fun. But then I kinda of have that same issue with a lot of action movies of the last decade or so, certainly the last 5, where did the fun go?

I don't see why you can't both prefer the tone of the earlier games and still wish for games that had that tone but with better design to the character. That isn't being hypocritical. It isn't even being hypocritical to play the game because it is okay to decide that tone of the game is a bigger factor to your playing enjoyment than the look. You can still be annoyed at the design and boobage and continue to call it out while playing the game.

I feel like im in the minority but I found the new games a ton of fun and really refreshing. Lara definitely seemed more like a real person.

LMAO, I remember seeing those books all the time at the library and thinking they looked dumb. I still haven't read them, but I had a friend who was into the series and it does sound genuinely interesting (once you get past the cover art).

Don't feel weird! If 15-year-olds can write Iron Man and Hannibal fic then there's nothing wrong with this. It's fine to write about characters that aren't your age. You do you.

I never got into the fandom of this, even though I've seen season 1. But as a huge fan of villain/hero ships, I highly approve of this secret. Villain/hero ships (and really any villain ships) are the best. Just so much fun to ship, especially when they are still written in character.

Joe Flanagan from SGA as descrided byhis co workers is hilarious. All he wants is to fly home to his family after work as soon as possible. Keira Knightley sounds giggly and a bit silly in PoTC extras... Anyway actors and sports celebs are not experts in other fields than their jobs.
