nayrt - This seems like a likely explanation. Trying to market themselves as a brand, etc. and going to the American media for sympathy and to boost their causes is a very Hollywood approach to the situation.

It's not like he has many real-life skills, so that kind of very public charity work, akin to what he did as a royal, and what his mother did, but with even more of a celbrity-like flare, could appeal to him as an idea for "what could I do in life". I'm not sure if he would even know how to live a really normal life (or if it was even possible).
