I get it. The opioid epidemic is real. Drug addiction is real. But for crying out loud, pain is real too. I'm so freaking sick of doctors who just outright refuse to subscribe anything stronger than an NSAID.

Saw the ENT for my jaw today. She was okayish. Had some ideas for long-term things. But she wants to look at the root causes, like my sleep issues. She's willing to do a botox injection, but that would be in a month, because my insurance will want a CT scan first. Meanwhile, she says she simply doesn't do muscle relaxants or painkillers. She was only willing to prescribe me some kind of NSAID I hadn't tried before. NSAIDs are not nearly strong enough for this pain.

Can you get low dosage codeine/tylenol mix over the counter there? It's the only thing that works for me for pain in my face.

Nope, codeine is prescription only in the US.

The government is taking the easy way out by making it almost impossible to get the help with long term pain. They can say "look at how many pills we kept off the street" by going after doctors and chronically ill instead of illegal drug dealers and people who abuse drugs. I have chronic pain. On MRIs you can see how my spinal is disintegrating. You can see how arthritis is distorting the area where my neck meets my spine. You can see how bad the bones are deformed in my foot making walking more than a few feet impossible without horrible pain. OTC meds do nothing.

I was seeing a pain doctor but all the new restrictions that the DEA and FDA keep rolling out each year made his job harder and harder to the point where he retired. I was taking low dose of Norco to keep the pain manageable. For the last 7 months I have gone without meds while waiting to see a new pain doctor. Pain infiltrated every aspect of my life. I even dream about it. I have never been so close to killing myself then I have these last few months. All because I and other people who can't fight back make the war on opioids look successful.

I'm so sorry. That sounds awful. And this sounds like one area where the government isn't going to be all that much better even under a better administration.

I wish things could be better for people like you. Mine isn't that bad yet. I do dream about pain, and I've started lashing out at the people in my life, but I can still function at least a good amount of the time.
