Hm, well, it seems to me that the problem is less the facts per se and more the construction that he tries to put on them. For instance, talking about slavery in other places does not take away the scale, or the evil, of American slavery. And it's quite rich to talk about America fighting to free the slaves without talking about the fact that they were fighting against... other Americans - not to mention the various complex ways in which we've been impacted by, and not really reckoned with, the impact of slavery and racism. So, it's not a very good argument at all, in my opinion.

Fair enough. Although I do think his point about people's lack of interest in tackling continued slavery is pretty valid. Especially the ongoing incidents of sub-Saharan African slavery in the Middle East.

I think you can certainly argue that people should care more about it. But I think it's very unreasonable to position that as an argument against demands for social justice "at home".

That's very true. If he'd truly meant that as the focus of his speech it seems like it would have been better to not drag the kneeling issue into it, or to use fake statistics.

Yeah, the context is what matters here. If this was a discussion about how many people pretend/believe white Americans (or white Europeans) were the only people to ever own or sell slaves or how slavery doesn't exist today anymore you could and should imo bring these points up. Do it while talking about it in the context of BLM and racism in the US though and it becomes a usually racist diversion tactic/whataboutism real quick.
