Re: It's the little things

Kissing three of my bunnies every morning, and being kissed by the fourth one who doesn't like being touched.

(She was abused by her first humans and is terrified of hands and will attack them. Six years after I took her in, she only gives me a warning growl if I reach towards her, and will SOMETIMES let me pet her for a few seconds as long as my hand doesn't come too close to her head. But if I lean down and keep my hands tucked under me, she will kiss all over my face, and then growl at me if I back away before she's done. <3)

Bunnies are the best!

My bunny doesn't do kisses but loves being petted. Sometimes if I pet him for long enough, he will condescend to lick my knees. I do miss bunny kisses (my previous bunny loved to cuddle), but I got my Thor from a petshop (I was buying hay, not a pet) and was told that nobody wanted him because he was very high maintenance (he's an angora lop) and a bit bitey (I have the scars to prove it!). He was very afraid of hands at first because he was often held by the ears. Poor bunny.

He doesn't bite (much) anymore, now he knows he can get everything he wants just by being cute <3

Indeed, buns are just the greatest. Even when they're not troubled, having a tiny little critter with tons of natural predators trust the big looming human... With multiples, I feel like some kind of Disney princess at times because I have all these little woodland creatures popping up excitedly at the sight of me. :D

I've started to wonder if my Boomer girl also was picked up by the ears, given that when she lets me pet her, she flips out if I touch her ears or get too close to them. Only down her back for a little while. Kind of sad because my favorite place to kiss buns is that super soft spot right behind/between the ears. Fortunately one of my other buns is a very very good boy and as long as I keep giving him nose pets, he'll let me just bury my face there in the softness. <3

You're so lucky to have several bunnies! When I got a bigger flat, I thought about getting Thor some company but the vet told me it wasn't a good idea as he was still way too aggressive.

Sadly it's quite likely your bunny was picked up by the ears, especially if she's a lop. When I go to petshops to buy hay, I often see the staff picking up the bunnies in this way to give them to their new owners. I usually tell them they shouldn't and to buy a litterbox but more often than not they seem to believe I'm that weird lady bunny who doesn't understand a bunny should live in a small cage and be cheap. Pisses me off.

Ugggh, I know it still happens, but I have never seen anyone pick up a rabbit by the ears. If I ever do I know I will go off on that person. It never occurred to me until a little while ago that it might be something that also happened to Boo... she was surrendered to a shelter for being "violent", and apparently upon arrival the owner grabbed her roughly and yanked her out of the carrier and the rescuer was like "Well gee, no wonder she's violent." :/ Though she's not a lop (mini-rex! So velvety soft, why can't I pet you, Boo? XD) and that's terrible to hear because every lop I've had is just the sweetest good baby, even the half-lops. (Including my good boy above who is my first helicopter bun. XD)

And yeah, I've had as many as six at a time, mostly because I keep hearing about or just straight out finding rabbits in terrible conditions and I can't leave them there. I've been obsessed with buns since I was 2, the fascination has only grown since I got my first 30+ years ago, and if my health wasn't terrible I'd get a second job just so I could have the money to give myself a third job by starting a rabbit shelter/sanctuary. It's terrible how misunderstood they still are, though it's a lot better than back in the 90s when you had to inform the vet that no, rabbits can't have amoxicillin, and they don't need to fast before surgery. (Though I still hear of that happening sometimes too.) -_-
