Emotional body language

(Anonymous) 2021-03-06 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds crazy, but anyone know a good guide for this?

I'm really struggling to get two of the really emotional scenes down and looking for some inspiration.

I think icarus_chained writes it really well, partly because they have asperger so they're looking at body language for cues in everyday life.

Thanks! Are they on AO3 or DW or some other platform?

Here are some charts (I found them on tumblr but here is google image search's origin I guess.)

The Body Language Cheat Sheet for Writers (Finding a good quality of this one is tuff.)

And Stormy-Rain's Body and Emotion Linking Cheat Sheet

https://lillpon.tumblr.com/post/183921680793/a-writing-cheat-sheet-for-linking-actions-with

Deviant Art has a chart for facial expressions.

Yes, I love tumblr for this shit. I really do.

I'm stalled on all four of my WIPs and my original story. :(

Fucking same.

My issue is - I hate 'angst in a can' (someone is raped, someone suddenly hates their best friend/boyfriend/girlfriend, someone has a TRAGIC PAST that they refuse to talk about but is also used as the reason they simply CAN'T DO THIS 'SHIP ANYMORE) - so i have trouble writing 'conflict'; it irritates me in a story when the conflict is one that's mostly easily dealt with, but for 'dramatic' reasons is allowed to rampage through the plot. Or when it's a horribly tropey, cliche kind of conflict.

So i just keep writing life as it happens for the characters, and get stalled out on some kind of big conflict to make the plot move along.

Ugh, same here, nonny, but I just have one fic WIP and one original story. :(

Damn. I feel that.

Re: Music Rec?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-06 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm writing a Pirate AU fanfic and I can only listen to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack before it wears me down. Any recs?

Also, songs at the club? I've never been much of a club goer (went a few times in my early 20s) and all playlists I have found have like one or two good club songs but then I'd end up with straight up pop songs that I wouldn't want to groove to at the club! Any songs or playlists or artists to recc I would love!

I don't have a particular one to share, but maybe look up sea shanties on youtube? I think they're having a moment right now...

Re: Music Rec?

Pirates - have you thought about looking up sea shanties? You might have to google some actual bands, Youtube''s only showing me that postie guy off tiktok. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is The Fisherman's Friends. Or if that's not the right vibe, maybe some other classic adventure film STs like Indiana Jones?

Some of my favourites from my memories of clubbing back then:
Underworld - Born Slippy
Faithless - Insomnia
Iio - Rapture
Olive - You're not alone
The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode (bit of an odd one this)

Also found a playlist on spotify:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0bigBPuzc84nz4vo4afsDi?nd=1

There's 90s stuff on there too, but they were still playing 90s classics in the clubs in the 00s as well as the 'new' stuff.

If we're talking 90s stuff then I need to mention the KLF

and their stuff is on Spotify now! the hits anyway

Re: Music Rec?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-06 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT KLF wasn't played so much in the 00s. At least not in my experience. Which was a shame, because they were awesome! :)

How could I forget! Also for 00s clubbing:

M&S presents The Girl Next Door - Salsoul Nugget (so good)
Tim Deluxe ft Sam Obernik - Just Won't Do (such a tuuuune)

^^^ sea shanty playlist from Assassins' Creed

Also, songs at the club?

In general, you could try looking for club mixes or remixes of pop songs - often club-oriented pop artists will release versions of songs mixed for the club

Here's my playlist of some stuff I've collected for my own pirate writing. Assassin's Creed Black Flag's OST is my favorite, but it's all good stuff.

Just a little vent/rant/ramble

It kind of drives me crazy that I can't find a way for my OTP to even say goodbye to each other properly, since they die apart in canon. (Other than an AU to the ending wherein they, y'know, don't die... which I've already written.) So I keep thinking I'll write something that is upbeat for them, or something that has a happy ending "for now" at least, but the best I can ever manage is "bittersweet" because their lives canonically sucked so much. At least they have each other.

Granted I think the reason I am so invested and fascinated is because their lives are so incredibly miserable and all they really have is each other. Apparently making it more miserable while they're there for each other brings me joy somehow, but I'd like to bring them some joy too, considering how much they bring me. (Yes, I am aware they're not real. :P)

I've started working on three separate stories, updating with sometimes two or three chapters a day, and I get no acknowledgement from the fandom. I know it's a small one, sp I know I'm being unreasonable in my quest for validation. I just... want someone to talk to me about the fics and where they're going, or even just hit that kudos button. I'm just trying and desperate and those make for poor bedfellows.

I know how you feel anon. I'm lonely too and desperate for fandom interaction.
