iZombie was recent, and there was this whole weird thing with not letting Major find out about the zombies.

I started hating this in the 90's ("I don't know how to tell you this!" on X-Files) and still hate it today. (I do think it was 100% in character for Xander, but I would have liked to have seen consequences for him, not just for Buffy and Angel.)

Yeah, Xander doing it? Fine. Xander keeping quiet about it? Totally in character. Buffy not even so much as going to Giles and asking "if the spell didn't work, how did Angel get his soul back?" after she came back to Sunnydale at the beginning of season three? Weird as hell

While a part of me understand that a lot of shows would lose almost all drama if people just... talked, it still bothers me, lol.

It feels like they should find less lazy plots

Am I the only one who kind of saw Xander’s point in not telling Buffy? From his point of view, it was doubtful that Willow would succeed, but Buffy would have a hard time defeating Angelus if she was holding back.

I mean, in general, Xander was often an irrational asshole, especially in regards to resenting Buffy’s relationships. But in this one case, I kind of get it.

Same. I don't think I would have told her, either.

Yeah, I understood why he did it too.

I can get it from his perspective. It also makes total sense. I don't get why Buffy never asks questions later Of Giles and Willow and figures out that Xander was lying. My issue isn't with Xander doing it, it is with the narrative then being quiet about it and making it seem as if Buffy is later totally cool with it. Some sort of deal should have been made of it.

Hate this!!

I really want the writers to figure out how to make drama happen without the characters keeping really stupid secrets.

It's actually possible!

But...the really annoying thing is the writers letting the secrets go on and on to the point where the characters keeping them are totally OC, and they warp the relationships beyond recovery (or what should be). Honestly, if some of these secrets were kept in reality, these relationships would be dead in the water afterward. And all for some tension? There are other ways to create tension in plot. A lot of ways! Secrets are only one!

Not OP btw. I happened to post something similar just the other day on twitter.

YES! Exactly. Some of the secrets are, to me, really stupid, and some are just...wow, wth.

Least. Favorite. Trope. EVER.
