OP: Thank you, secret maker!

I still stand by my claim that Chase's French accent is the surprisingly rare example of a French accent being a turn off. Fantastic character design, btw! But he's a doof, and I've made my peace with him having no romantic prospects in canon, nor deserving one. Still a great design!

not even in a disney-fied sense, just give me media with different mythologies period. I get that the Greek/Roman ones and Norse are the most familiar to western audiences because we've heard of them before but good god, we're already so sick of rehashing the same things over and over. branch out. I don't want to have to solely turn to manga for multiple takes on Yamata no Orochi, or cdramas for mythologized versions of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I will and I do, but ugh I feel you OP.

You might want to try Guardian (the Chinese internet novel, not the TV show). I don't know how accurate the whole Chinese mythology is though. It was interesting albeit very confusing when I read it the first time, but then again I had just finished the show and was expecting science fiction.

This was one of my big disappointments with the book American Gods. I was hoping for more non-Norse (and even non-Egyptian) mythologies to show up in significant roles.

In the show, I did like that Kali/Mama-Ji gets more of her own scenes. (But she should really be Mata-Ji, no?)

Ooh, I definitely agreed. I love mythology and there are so many cool stories from all over the world, but I guess it’s easier for people to stick to the ones that the general Western public is already familiar with.

It does happen with female characters too. Honestly, though, I'm totally fine with actual headcanons, it's when people start thinking that their headcanons are Great Justice and you're oppressing [group] for not agreeing that it's a problem.

Yeah, the thing I enjoy about villains is the whole "anyone can become a villain in the right circumstances" and it's weird to me how much flak one gets on twitter for having the tiiiiniest bit of sympathy for them.

IDK, but my take on it is: too much technology and less human connection in the present time (or what is considered "present time" in the fiction you are reading/watching)? Stay behind in the past with your true love and life may not be easier, but you've connected with them and it'll be easier to bear? Plus, less technology in the past- perhaps a simpler life- means more connecting with your partner, the other villagers or whatever, so lots of new friends to make. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
