not even in a disney-fied sense, just give me media with different mythologies period. I get that the Greek/Roman ones and Norse are the most familiar to western audiences because we've heard of them before but good god, we're already so sick of rehashing the same things over and over. branch out. I don't want to have to solely turn to manga for multiple takes on Yamata no Orochi, or cdramas for mythologized versions of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I will and I do, but ugh I feel you OP.

Do you have any recs for Cdramas about Romance of the Three Kingdoms?

I don't know anything about it but I'm getting into Cdramas and trying to learn Chinese so it might be interesting.

Anything with Wang Yibo or Liu Haikuan would be perfect! Actually I would watch anything with Liu Haikuan as long as there are English subtitles.

...highly doubt you'll find RotTK dramas featuring those pretty boy idol actors you like. Totally different wheelhouses.

You might want to try Guardian (the Chinese internet novel, not the TV show). I don't know how accurate the whole Chinese mythology is though. It was interesting albeit very confusing when I read it the first time, but then again I had just finished the show and was expecting science fiction.

American Gods

This was one of my big disappointments with the book American Gods. I was hoping for more non-Norse (and even non-Egyptian) mythologies to show up in significant roles.

In the show, I did like that Kali/Mama-Ji gets more of her own scenes. (But she should really be Mata-Ji, no?)

Did you read the same book I did? The one I read had significant characters from Russian, Native American, West African, Greek, Celtic, Hindu, Christian, Arabic, German, Anglo-Saxon, and Ethiopian mythology

Same. I would really like something *different* to be shown, and we've got the whole damn world to pick from!

Ooh, I definitely agreed. I love mythology and there are so many cool stories from all over the world, but I guess it’s easier for people to stick to the ones that the general Western public is already familiar with.

Go watch Raya and the Last Dragon! As a Viet woman who’s traveled in Southeast Asia extensively, I am loving the myth fusion. Hopefully if enough people see it Disney will realize what they’re actually good at and quit it with the interminable live action remakes.

Have you tried any of the Rick Riordan presents books? Also Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse or Ghost Squad by Cabribel A. Ortega.

I'm all for more variety of mythology in media, but I'm raising my eyebrow over the word "accurate." The nature of mythology is that it's always changing and branching. Any mythological story that interests enough people is just as valid as all the other ones.

May I recommend Megaten too?
