Sadly, there are a lot of people who think this. A lot of people in power, especially in conservative states. In those states, judges who are supposed to be neutral often work with prosecutors, favor them, and help them. And prosecutors in most states have a massive advantage. It is even worse for appointed defense attorneys who are overworked and underpaid, especially in conservative states, and who are expected to do the same level of work as a hired defense attorney with a minuscule budget and staff. And then defense attorneys of the guilty get hated on for just doing their job and providing defense. That's their job. Everyone should be defended. That's what the system is designed for. We don't want a system where people aren't entitled to defense.
