What Genre Would You Like to See More Of?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-09 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Can be anything books/tv/movies/etc...

For me with tv; I would like to see more in terms of comedy sci-fi. I was talking about it with my Dad about it and could only really think of Red Dwarf, Futurama and Rick & Morty as shows we enjoyed.

Fantasy tv in any form. But especially things that involve at least a few actually heroic characters and at least some sense of hope even if things get pretty dark.

Just, escapism. Things that don't make me think of the real world. Genre things where I can just sit back and enjoy this fictional world and come out of it happy and not all depressed.

I would like to see more fantasy that isn't grimdark. I'm so tired of rape and babymurder and everything being covered in shit. I just want some sparkly magic and some dragons, without having to resort to another damn harem anime.

More sci-fi. Actually more sci-fi like The Expanse, that reminds me *very* strongly of CJ Cherryh's Alliance/Union books.

And i know everyone else is sick of it, but more zombie stuff, but *smart* zombie stuff, not the fucking hellish mess that, for instance, The Walking Dead descended into.

Post-apocalyptic stuff where we get to see a lot of cleaver people figuring out how to live, seeing a new civilization grow, with a lot less 'crazy over the top guy controls everything!!!!' Mad Max stuff.

Hopeful magical girl/boy anime. I'm not a fan on any of the darker takes on the genre, no matter how deep and more realistic people say they are.

70s-80s-90s wild-play-of-ideas sci fi that's space-opera-esque but not influenced by *punk, dystopian SF, or military SF

Horror that takes place in the deep ocean and/or caverns, like Ted's Caving Page... stories that deal with the existential horror of being submerged in darkness for so long that you forget what the surface looks like, and that deal with themes of alienness and isolation. I feel like a lot of these stories focus a lot on the Big, Scary Things lurking out of view, but their mistake is making those Big, Scary Things the central mystery or antagonist. The Depths and what the human brain does when it has no sensory feedback are enough of their own antagonists to carry a story.

M/m romance where the plot is 90% adventure or scifi, and 10% romance. Preferably with a large helping of sexual tension.
