Maybe it's more like you learn how to interpret where things are in space without actual depth perception? Like looking at a painting - it's 2D and there is no actual depth, but the artist uses various kinds of perspective to create the illusion of depth and communicate where things are in relation to each other.

Same as above, a persona can learn to see and interpret things without depth, but that's not the same as re-learning to see depth. The original comment was worded in a way making it sound it was the latter.
