I tried, but I'm finally done with this show. The best supporting characters are all gone: Camille, Fidel, Dwayne. Detective Mooney (#3) was boring but mildly charming, and now Detective Parker (#4) is just boring.
It feels like easy "social justice points," but I really think they should have gotten a black actor instead. Then, even if the character had a bland personality, they could have taken advantage of all the potential material on being black in the UK vs being black in the Caribbean.

Yes. Oh I would love to see them acknowledge that and work with it.

NAYRT

But that would likely involve more work (and possibly collaboration with others in order to explore and execute what these differences are in experience) than people are either willing to do or sponsor financially. Also, regarding financial backing (should the witters involved be willing and excited to explore the topic) I'm sure there might have been a certain level of "but ugh, who would watch this? Who would become our target demographic? Would people feel alienated? Etc etcETC" chatter for some. Much in the way that (at least in Hollywood) producers were always hesitant/resistant to cast a lead who was Black, Asian, Indigenous, Latino, etc. Which, times are changing, but....It sounds super interesting though!

Yeah, they've certainly leaned hard into nostalgia for a sort of specific white British experience. And maybe that is what a lot of the audience is tuning in for.
