I read one smut fic set in a medieval-esque fantasy setting where the author used "staff" to mean cock in it. Usually that would be much too euphemistic for me, but in this specific setting it worked, and did not interfere with the hotness of the fic, at least for me.

...You know, I wouldn't be terribly opposed to it in such a setting if, er, such a fic did not involve mages/wizards. Because that could become a little confusing. ;)
