I'm positive you've had this rec before, but the Expanse TV show is good. It's not got the mythology aspect, but it does have alien mystery that's forcibly grounded in reality, making it very interesting. There's some war stuff there. The characters are very intriguing, too.

I'm not normally a big fan of sci-fi, but this one got me. Admittedly that's mostly because of the suicidal detective who desperately needs, like, just a hug. And maybe a "good job" sticker. And the dude who is all beefcake but reasons essentially like a kid. "Don't make me kill you. Who would fly the ship?" being said in a very concerned and genuine voice being one instance of that dichotomy on display.

Plus you get all the conflict between Earthers (people suffering a planet-wide resource shortage and suffering in poverty), Belters (people who were born and raised in space and usually wouldn't survive living on a planet, treated nearly as a slave class), and Martians (people who colonized Mars and have a distinctly nationalistic mindset.) It's just fuckin' good, man.
