Most of the "accepted" characteristics in fanon are pretty far from the source. Fandom tends to villainize heroes and women while simultaneously woobifying actual villains. The best writers IGNORE accepted fanon interpretations and stick closely to the canon while having an understanding of the source's genre and how tropes are used in that genre.
