Honestly, I love M/M because I feel power dynamics ARE much better and that in turn allows me to feel more comfortable exploring dynamics and, therefore, write less clichéd stories, but that's because I like it too so... chicken to the egg. I hate ABO and rigid seme/uke dynamics though (sub/dom dynamics in bed are fine but rough tall yaoi hands rude man x wimpy kid types? nope) so maybe I'm not That Kind.
FTR I'm asexual, biromantic (but leaning towards lesbian kinda) and I certainly don't like M/M for the "shallow reasons" you speak of.

(Also worth noting: I just like it - and don't feel morally superior or inferior in any sense for that.)

You're not the only one. I enjoy exploring dodgier dynamics with my M/M ships than I do with my M/F ships. I can't get more than a tiny bit dark with M/F before I start to get squicked, but with M/M there's more wiggle room for me.

It has nothing to do with wanting to "justify my preferences" or whatever. A reason does not automatically equal a justification. Sometimes it's just a reason.
