I am not sure I understand the part of your argument that's about policing practice - it seems to me correct to say that police at least ought to be civil and not military. And there are some obvious reasons why Peel would be a person to look at to understand the normative intent and origins of policing. Not because Peel was especially perceptive as a political thinker, but because he was one of the prime movers in creating the modern institution.

But I definitely agree people give too much of a pass to quotes based on the source sometimes.

If nothing else, Pratchett was certainly idealistic about how police work should be adapted. He wasn’t big on brute force and retribution.

I guess I don't really see it?

I started watching this at age 9 (my big sister was the gateway influence) and rewatching from the other side of thirty, I definitely see what the producers meant when they said she looked like a "street urchin". She really is an adorable little thing in big girl clothes.

Because it is all a cover to draw away from Prince Andrew. Change my mind.

It was a really effective technique to gain sympathy and outrage from ignorant Americans, though.

People don't want facts or the truth. Too many people don't want to accept that everyone in this tale of woe sucks. No one is innocent here. And if anything I think Harry is the biggest villain. I honestly believe he didn't really prepare Meghan for what a shit show she was signing up for. He should have been telling her how crazy his family is from the moment they got serious until they got married. None stop.

Whereas British people who fume with outrage at the mere suggestion that anyone in the royal family or British press could have even an atom of racism about them - clearly reasonable
