Because it is all a cover to draw away from Prince Andrew. Change my mind.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I like this conspiracy theory, I find it hard to believe that Harry and Meghan would agree to sacrifice themselves for him like this.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
What on earth are they sacrificing? Fabulous wealth, no need to work, media and uncritical sm at their feet - cmon.

It was a really effective technique to gain sympathy and outrage from ignorant Americans, though.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Whereas British people who fume with outrage at the mere suggestion that anyone in the royal family or British press could have even an atom of racism about them - clearly reasonable

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Every Brit knows that Princess Michael is racist, though, and has always known. Every Brit knows about Prince Philip - and that the tabloid press is racist. I haven't seen any Brit fuming with outrage at the suggestion that members of the royal family and the gutter press are racist. It is known.

I haven't said a single word about British people and whether their outrage is reasonable or not. You're bringing a lot of baggage into this conversation and arguing for the sake of being outraged yourself, I suppose?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
False dichotomy but cleverly designed to derail AYRTs argument.Plus bonus antiBrit sniping.FS gold medal.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
People don't want facts or the truth. Too many people don't want to accept that everyone in this tale of woe sucks. No one is innocent here. And if anything I think Harry is the biggest villain. I honestly believe he didn't really prepare Meghan for what a shit show she was signing up for. He should have been telling her how crazy his family is from the moment they got serious until they got married. None stop.

Hmm.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you for the title thing, that argument is kind of disingenuous. But since part of the reason they need security is due to their connection with the royal family, I can see that as more nebulous. Former US presidents do get Secret Service protection, though they can refuse it. It's not quite the same mechanism, but there are similar principles at play, I think. You don't get a paycheck when you quit a company, but if you had been with that company for, like, 35 years, you might expect some consideration.

Re: Hmm.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's a completely different mechanism, unfortunately for them. I agree, they need security because of their fame and royal connections. Whether or not the funds for that security should come out of their own pocket or British taxpayers' pockets is a separate issue. This is how the royal system works, right or wrong. Royal who aren't working for the Crown don't get $$$. It might not be fair, but they can't claim ignorance of how the system works just because they don't like the results.

Re: Hmm.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think working Royals should usually get paid security either, they're rich enough to pay for it themselves. They can have paid security at ceremonial public events, that's fair.

Agreed, I'm fed up with the vague hinting. If you have something to say or someone specific to blame, just say it. Trying to make it look like someone in the main family was asking racist questions about the baby's skin, when in reality it could have been Zara's third step-cousin making stupid jokes.

But that wouldn't sell interviews, now would it.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the vagueing's annoying. The immediate "oh it wasn't the Queen or the Duke" makes me think they realised this, but true to form, they've just dug themselves in deeper.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It makes me skeptical, too. If you want people to be aware of this horrible racism, then just say who said it. No point in coy denials and playing guess who.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
It blows my mind that anyone cares about these people in the first place. The entire family is a bunch of self-obsessed drains on the public funds. They're the Kardashians with slightly more civic power. This drama is nothing out of the ordinary.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, HM and Princess Anne are ok.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I think what bothers me about the accusations of racism, is while they’re definitely not unfounded, they seem a little embellished coming from someone who is white-passing (And iirc, ‘caucasian’ was her ethnicity on her resume.). As a white-passing POC myself, it’s hard not to be a little ‘Sure, Jan.’ RE some of the claims made in the interview. Racism is definitely real for us, but not the same as it is for visible poc. I find it hard to believe anyone was worried Archie wasn’t going to be white.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
She might have been white-passing back in her acting days, but she certainly wasn't anymore by the time she was set to marry Harry. I hadn't seen Suits at the time so I actually had no idea who Meghan Markle was, and the very first thing I learned about her was that she was a BLACK American actress marrying into the British royal family. The media harped strongly on this point. So I'm sure her experience is, uh, different from yours in some key ways.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it does the opposite though? It's more "hey, she's white-passing and STILL gets all this shit. Imagine if she was less white-passing"

(Anonymous) 2021-03-17 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
The real losers in the Harry and Meghan drama are the people of Sussex, who, left leaderless without their Duke, are now defenseless against incursions from Hampshire and Kent.
