Coding fashion as "pathetic" is IMO the problem. When you take one of few fields which are still considered to be women's mostly despite a heavy males' overpowering presence and say they can't have agency and shouldn't do shit outside the industry's box because it somehow wouldn't be "subjectively bad" but rather "objectively pathetic" YES YOU ARE TO LIMIT THEIR FREEDOM and removing their agency. FUCK YOU and it's discourse like that - don't wear what you want, it's bad! Fashion is objective, not subjective! :) - making women get blamed for BEING RAPED. To me fashion is an art as any, it's self expression and each person likes what they like and to each their own. Nobody should bother with it, let those people feel happy without your unwelcome opinion. And don't bother backing off on your stupidity now, this is why I said from the beginning of the thread that these are terrible opinions and people like that should shut up.

Besides, personally I think that it's pathetic to wear real fur/leather and precious metals in jewelry in prime 2021. But that doesn't make the wearer, often frivolous but rich old ladies any pathetic in society's eyes.

NAYRT
Nobody "codes" fashion as anything here. Anon just thinks it looks pathetic. I personally don't think it looks pathetic, just bad. But you losing your mind over this and equating it with someone saying women deserve to get raped for what they wear... what drugs are you on?

And then you turn around after screaming your little head off about the evils of calling a fashion choice pathetic and... do it yourself. As if real fur wasn't sideyed by the majority of western society. And as if the faux leather alternatives made out of plastic aren't much more harmful to the environment. Etc. You are a class A hypocrite.

Did you even read what I said?

You think it looks bad? Great, that's on you and we are all entitled to having a personal taste and opinions. You think it's pathetic and they are somehow lesser for wearing it? BRUH.

And while we are at it, that's not true either, many synthetic materials ARE reusable. Many aren't. I ain't talking environment, I am talking animal cruelty. But in either case I think we can ALL agree that judging others for being anti-environment or pro-animal cruelty is more valid than judging others for harmless aesthetic tastes, yes? Well then that was my point.

AYRT Ah yes, I forgot having an opinion was illegal these days.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-20 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

And nobody's saying people "can't" wear whatever they like. Do whatever floats your boat, but some people won't like it, and that's life. Like, do you think that everyone and everything should always be immune from criticism for their choice of clothing?

Many of Kanye's fashion designs are ugly and look like a bohemian ewok fell in the mud and then rolled around in a rag barrel. That's subjective criticism from me, a person with eyes. He thinks it's art, some people adore it, but I think it sucks.

Besides, personally I think that it's pathetic to wear real fur/leather and precious metals in jewelry in prime 2021. But that doesn't make the wearer, often frivolous but rich old ladies any pathetic in society's eyes.

You have a right to that opinion, too! Nobody in this internet thread is walking up to people in person and laughing at their outfits or aesthetic decisions, or even commenting on their posted videos, because I won't shit on someone's hobby to make them feel bad. This is anon?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-20 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Read again. I said: you don't wanna wear bc you dislike it? That's PERFECTLY fine!!! You think that somehow allows you to criticize or be prejudiced against wearers for it? Lol bro fuckoff.

Trust me, being knowledgeable in the field of Fashion doesn't make one knowledgeable in a) all fashions in the world, their culture-specific meanings or motives and purposes, nor b) better than anyone for disliking alternative/urban ... Honestly. Shame on you.

Anyway, I think to each their own and I am not a lolita adept myself, though I also wear cute fashion and I just HATE when people somehow associate like wearing frills and no cleavage = childish ; or any association really like wearing this = that. Like... CONTEXT? Lolita fashion isn't for kids. Never was, actually.
