There's a series in the Good Omens fandom that has 165 separate but connected stories, and each story is 666-words long, and it DRIVES ME UP THE FUCKING WALL every time I see a new one posted on AO3. It's so petty of me, but oh my god, just make it all one story! Why are these not chapters?!

That is incredibly annoying. At least 5000 words is decent length, so I probably wouldn't stop reading that fic. But some authors do this with little snippets of a few hundred words and those I refuse to read even when they aren't immediately connected. Just put in one story so people don't have to click a button every thirty seconds.

A fic that's a guilty-pleasure of mine did this... I just copied the whole thing into a document and created an epub of it as a chaptered fic instead of downloading the whole "series".

5K each is a reasonable length, so this wouldn't really bother me. Also, in some fandoms feedback drops to almost zero on multi-chapter WIPs, and many authors know they'll lose motivation without feedback from readers. So they posts the chapters as individual stories.

If that's what it takes for them to stay motivated and finish the fic I am enjoying for free, then I'm not going to begrudge them for it.

If each one is under 2K words, and they're just spewing them out by the dozen, then yeah, that starts to get very spammy and annoying.

Pretty much all of the fics I read are like this. I doesn't bother me because I understand that not everyone has the time to sit down and write a full-length fic in one go, and some people like sharing their work as they write it rather than waiting until it's finished.

I also prefer it this way, because if I'm binge reading a fic in bed when I should be sleeping, I tell myself I'll read until the end of a "chapter" and then go to sleep!

I think the narrator’s thoughts about Jenny are an extremely realistic depiction of being an awkward, kind of wallflowery teenage girl, looking at one of the cool girls and trying to figure out what makes them different from you.

How did we get from “she’s so pretty and she’s so sure” to “anyways, random boy!”?

Because the song is a portrait of the summer she went away to camp and lost her virginity. I don’t understand where this “how did we get from?” sentiment is coming from. The song is a tableau. And the part where she has sex for the first time was always the center of the tableau. Jenny is the cool girl who seems really sure about everything, including sex. It all seems very cohesive to me. A clear, evocative, well-told story in the format of a song. It seems like you don’t like the story the song is telling, which is fine, but that doesn’t mean the story is badly told.

Why does there need to be a shower scene period? I mean I know I'm usually waiting for movies and shows to have the bathroom "I need to pee/poop" moment, just to make the characters a bit more human. But a video game? Do they even have outfit changes that the player does not choose? What's the point? I wouldn't expect shower scenes for a video game/Visual Novel outside of a sims game or a smutty visual novel.

Transcript: For some reason, I've always gravitated towards Lovecraft's more ambiguous portrayals of eldritch abominations. Stuff like "Pickman's Model" and the Dream Cycle are more interesting to me than stuff like "Shadow Over Innsmouth" or "At the Mountains of Madness," where the creatures are openly malevolent.

Maybe it's because I'm primarily a sci fi person rather than a horror person. Maybe it's because the idea of weird stuff that can drive you mad just chilling is more frightening to me than stuff that's specifically out to get you. Whatever the reason, I feel like I'm kinda doing Lovecraft wrong.

Also, read "Pickman's Model," it's my favorite Lovecraft short story and features a painter who is very chill about eldritch abominations, which is super cool to me.

What bothered me most about Fuheng is he never actually listened to what Yinglou wanted. He tried to protect her when she didn't need or want his protection. In that way, he was very childish. When he married other girl to "protect" YingLou, it was over. Yinglou no longer loved him due to his huge disrespect.

Whereas she and the Emperor did have respect for each other. Yes, the age gap (16 years) is rather large. At the same time, YingLou treated the entire affair as a business. Later, she did love him. She overcame her fear of childbirth for the Emperor. But she also had her agenda in mind. (Which I liked about the series, the end did tie back to the beginning.)

I think the whole Fuheng thing got dragged out and he was the one who needed to move on! He kept putting himself and Yinglou in danger b/c he wouldn't move on and the show milked that one plot line too many.

I got into the show b/c of clips of Yinglou and the Emperor. So yeah. They amused me greatly.
