Because armpits are hot. :-) They're a semi-hidden part of the body; the skin there is softer and more sensitive; armpit hair tends to be silkier than other body hair; they get a bit wet during sex; and assuming the person you're in bed with is reasonably clean, the smell and taste is pleasantly salty.

The only downside is that deodorant is nasty to taste. I recommend post-shower or bath, pre-deodorant sex for optimal armpit enjoyment.
