It's rare enough for the pros to do it well. I always of Nabokov's Lolita as a particularly masterful use of first person with the intent to gaslight the reader. It's a stylistic choice that should be made for a reason, and the reason shouldn't be, "Because it's the easiest thing for me to write."

(That being said, I have read ONE fic that did it well...)

AYRT I just can't bring myself to read Lolita. Good to know though.

Very true about pros still struggling to carry it off.

I'm curious as to which fic you've read that carried it off?
