there are def c-shows out there with good ladies, but they're not as common as i'd like unfortunately. but i think what annoys me more though are when the fandoms oversell these flat and lackluster women so i go in expecting something great, and then end up annoyed because they were all narrative-props for men and had no relevancy outside of that. i just wish people would be honest about the ladies sucking(esp when everyone's there for the m/m shipping, like come on guys) instead of duping me into thinking i'm gonna get some great ladies, and then they're all dead/written-out by the half-way point of the show... like :|

(i'm low-key worried this could happen with legend of fei because i like how the lady protag is driving the plot atm and i really hope she gets to stay at the helm of it, i don't mind that she's probably gonna fall in love or share part of the story with the dude she meets, but i don't want him to take over from her)

I've noticed that fandom seems content with... well, let's charitably say "very little" when it comes to female characters. The gushing over Wen Qing and Jiang Yanli in The Untamed, for example. It's not like they aren't likeable, or interesting. It's just... there's not much to them, and the scope of their roles are nothing like the male characters.

But that said, they're way better than some Cdrama female leads in that they're not entirely helpless little girls who swoon over mediocre male leads.

"there's not much to them, and the scope of their roles are nothing like the male characters"

This is exactly why the fandom likes them. They fulfill their small roles they were given while supporting and not taking away attention from their beloved male characters.

I've seen all kinds of female leads get criticism or downright hate for the tiniest things, far more than their male counterparts. Doesn't matter if it's a typical helpless ditsy little girl or a stronger, more mature kind of female lead, international viewers on Mydramalist and Youtube never seem happy with any female character with a substantial amount of screentime.

From my impression, the ladies from The Untamed and the girl from Word of Honor get a generally positive reception from the fandom. And both are "Boys Love" dramas where the focus is on the male characters. Coincidence? I think not.
