Yeah, I know what you mean, OP. But I guess I should've known that nobody seems content to do a more straightforward adaptation of ACD Sherlock Holmes and its universe, there's always got to be a twist of some kind.

In this case in particular it's a real shame because they had so much room to make a twist and still have it be a straight play on ACD's universe.

Yes - I'm not sure we *need* a straight adaptation of ACD Holmes, the Brett one was so good, but here there's room to do something interesting and new set in the ACD Holmes universe, without making it supernatural.

If you mean Granada, then yes, but...the later episodes really suffered from Brett's ill health and stretching some stories to breaking point.
If you mean BBC Radio Holmes, then - hell, yeah.
